maths study via The Open University

Time to reflect

Three years ago, the only maths I had was whatever remnants of an ancient O level remained in my brain.

Today, because of The Open University and a lot of self-study, I’m 2/3rds the way through a maths degree, with plans to extend my study way beyond an initial BSc.

For that, I really am truly grateful.

I remember the odd feeling when I first completed MST121 and MS221. Combined, they formed the Certificate in Mathematics. I say odd feeling because it was, genuinely, a mixture of excitement, satisfaction, contentment and wonder.

As of today, courtesy of passing MST209, it seems I’m eligible for the Diploma in Mathematics, too.

I have the same feelings as I did when I got the Certificate.

There’s a certain rewarding feeling after hammering out hour after hour, night after night, week after week and month after month of study.

Your achievement, while hugely down to the excellent teaching materials and tutors, is also, ultimately, testament to YOU.

Warm and fuzzy is how I’d describe myself right now.

Amazingly, after all the worry about how the exam had gone, I got a stunning result in the 90s I didn’t think I’d see, and a distinction overall by quite a way.

That should mean that a double distinction diploma containing the fruits of my M208 and MST209 labour is on its way.

I’m not sure I could be much happier.

MST209 exam results are out

Good luck to everyone picking their result up today.
